Hello! I had a question about reserving/apping two characters from the same-ish canon. The first is Credence from Fantastic Beasts and the other is Draco from Harry Potter. Technically it's all the same canon, though the characters are years apart and would never be able to meet. I was curious if I could bring them both and your thoughts on this. Thank you!

Because Credence and Draco are from significantly different periods of time and therefore cannot and do not interact in canon, we'd say that you're definitely able to app both! We only remind characters who play from the same/similar canons that they shouldn't have significant interactions while in the city. Go forth!

Hello!

So I have two questions actually with regards to both of my apps.

First one: has to do with Clark here. How would you app in a character that technically is dead? I'd like for Clark's canon point to be post BVS (or at very least post-final boss scene) but he's in a little coffin under the ground even though we know he resurrects, its impossible to know the exact parameters of that resurrection! Advice on this would be perfect.

Second question: I intend on apping an incredibly obscure character called Thom Creed from a novel called Hero. Unfortunately its wikipedia plot summary is somewhat lacking/mostly concerns itself with the set up of the novel. While this does include the 'background' and general idea of his home world I was curious if it would also be necessary to include a synopsis of the canon's full events / a personality section for the character? Just asking so I'd have a little heads up as it might take a while to write it all out!

In regards to question #1, the mod team took a look at the synopsis for Batman vs Superman, specifically Superman's death and then implied resurrection, and would like to suggest the following points:

Clark can certainly make his "wish" in the moments just before his death, such as while he's being stabbed, or just after, when he realizes he'll die from the attack. This is very common for characters who would otherwise die in their canons!

If Clark chose to make a wish just before his canon death, he would be summoned to Cuddle City directly after. This would mean that any canon events in the movie after his death would not be part of his IC knowledge during his stay in the city.

The redemption of his wish stone, upon completion of his required contributions to the city, would enable him to return back to his earth to be resurrected. If you chose to canon update him to the very end of the movie, or to a sequel or other movie connected to the universe, you could do so this way.

For question #2, after reviewing the provided wiki entry, we do not feel that it would be necessary to write out a full synopsis of the events of Thom's life. However, if there are important plot events that shape his personality that you feel are missing, we (and other players who may be less familiar with the canon) would certainly appreciate having them detailed in the application for better understanding of the character.

hi there! sorry to bother you guys--i just had a quick question regarding housing. i was wondering if it's possible for two characters to share a place/have a 2 bedroom apartment? i know it says to handwave preferred layouts but i didn't see anything about different number of rooms and didn't want to overstep.

graves and credence were previously living together in eudio for comfort/safety reasons on credence's part so we were wondering if we could carry that on over here if possible. thanks so much in advance!!

Typically, the housing assignments provided to new volunteer citizens are meant to accommodate only one citizen. However, if Graves and Credence requested this arrangement, the administration is willing to have made the appropriate arrangements. Upon move-in, the pair will find — rather than the standard issue double bed — a very beautiful, very sturdy bunk bed. Ah, space constraints. Gotta love them.

Of course, volunteer citizens are more than welcome to move into other, larger accommodations (ones that are decidedly less dorm-style and more like an actual apartment) once they've obtained the financial means — e.g. obtained a job in the city, or perhaps by entering the city-wide scavenger hunt (all participants receive an additional week's worth stipend, even if they don't win the grand prize!).

Percival will be consolidated into Credence's previous housing assignment, BETA BUILDING, FLOOR ONE, WEST UNIT.

1) Can Kieren get a job at the art museum?

2) Apping in another character from the same canon (IE Cassian from Rouge One). As the rebels were pretty much forgotten to time most likely by Hux's star dates, he wouldn't know who Cassian is, and probably wouldn't talk to him...would that be ok? (were they on the same side it would be different, but rebel vs first order, they would avoid one another)

i have a question relating directly to jack. idk if the mods know bioshock (spoilers ahead if you don't and don't want spoilers!) but jack was grown in a lab rather than being, y'know, a normal person. he was made in 1956, bioshock takes place in 1960, so technically he's only 4 years old. however, he's both 18+ in body (aka the artificially grown part), and also has 18+ years of fake but real-feeling memories planted in his brain, including 2 years that he spent from 1958-60 actually living this life out before he made it to rapture.

basically my question is would he be appable or is that kind of pushing it?

Thanks so much for reaching out. Because Jack has the physiological body of an (at least) 18 year old and has the memories and mentality of an 18 year old, he's suitable for apping into Cuddle City! We'd likely recommend noting this in the "AGE" portion of the application, but an explanation similar to the one provided here will suffice!

Hey mods! I asked this in the chat on Discord but it was suggested that this was a better venue. It doesn't actually apply to this month for me personally but I know that things get really hectic at work sometimes and my ability to sit down and tag is super limited because my time at home is super limited. On months like that, I wonder if there's a way that we can skip doing an open post or network that might end up having to ignore the majority of responses it gets and just tag out to the number of things we know we can handle that month?I would just hate to know that a particular month is going to be really busy at work and I really can't juggle more than two or three logs and maybe an OkCuddle thread or network post thread and because I have to have an open post, I can only respond to one or two of the people that hit it back. I don't want to have to ignore anything else that comes in after that in order to keep up on a crazy work month, but I also wouldn't want to fail activity. What would be the best course of action in your opinion, in a situation like this?

I'm just going to add on a possible suggestion for this, saying as I'm not the biggest fan of the engagement rule as it stands. Would it be possible to make the engagement portion a tlevel/post *or* an ac qualifying length thread with new cr? Because I know the rule is there to help prevent exclusivity, maybe that could be a decent alternative solution for players who don't have time or don't want to force out a post/tlevel for whatever reason.

Sorry for piggybacking, it was just something that occurred to me as an alternative option.

I'm confused - is only one specific character from a specific canon (like Rogue One) allowed?

Hi there!

That's certainly not the case — check out our Taken page; we have multiple canons with plenty of characters in game.

Unless you're asking if multiple versions of the same character are allowed in game at the same time! This is only allowed if the canons are different, i.e. Spider-Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe AND Spider-Man from the Marvel comics would both be allowed in game simultaneously. However, to use your Star Wars example, Darth Vader from with a Rogue One canon point would not be allowed in game at the same time as an Anakin circa Revenge of the Sith, as they're just the same character from different points in the canon's continuity.

my question is less of a question and more of a suggestion with regards to locations and the new fantastic job opportunities

Is it possible CC could have a newsletter/newspaper type thing going on; perhaps due to the influx of new people and a desire to keep on top of the local news. Maybe these new people created a new need for news? Something mid-brow that a man who sometimes wears glasses could work at?

Players are always welcome to come up with locations that their characters would like to work at — whether they want their character to own and operate the location, or to manage a business owned by a Cadelle native, or maybe they just want a regular old 9-to-5, the sky is your limit. (Wink.)

We've gone ahead and added the Cadelle Times to our locations directory and our jobs directory for your convenience. Feel free to let us know exactly what job Mr Kent will be submitting his CV for by dropping a comment HERE.

How do I go about playing? Do I post in the Test Drive meme, and then submit the application?

While the Test Drive Meme is never a hard requirement, it is definitely encouraged — it will give you the opportunity to play and explore in the universe, which typically helps potential players determine if the game is a good fit, and will also help you meet our current cast and hopefully jump-start potential CR! If you're in need of samples for your application, this is also a perfect place to gather them!

In addition, we do also offer a reserves period to allow players to reserve a character of choice, though this too is entirely optional! The only truly mandatory step is our application process.

hey so i was wondering ... if it would be possible at all for me to write a written sample for the samples section on jolyne's app instead of linking some threads? i was banking on the current tdm being a little more fast paced and responsive; i know you guys heavily prefer samples being linked from there. i just want to be able to turn in an app on time and i wouldn't know where else to go for samples. ;_;

Hi there!

Totally not a bother! While we do prefer samples from our test drive meme, it's not a hard requirement; samples from other games, test drive memes, museboxes, general memes and the like are all equally acceptable, provided they've taken place within the past 12 months! Our only hard requirement regarding samples is that they be threaded samples rather than a written out prose as we'd like to see how your character interacts with others versus just writing pure fiction yourself.

We'll be sending a character or two over to your toplevel on the TDM, in the meantime, so hopefully that helps!

Does the 3 AC checks need to be 3 consecutive AC checks or does it just mean I need to pass 3 AC checks?

ie. Malia came in in the September app round, I passed AC for October (1), I'm on hiatus for November, there's no AC for December, so can I do January (2) and February (3), or does the hiatus/December break the streak and I need to wait to do January (1), February (2), March (3)?

Characters do not necessarily need to pass activity three consecutive months, but they do need to pass activity for three months in order to be eligible. Hiatuses would not count towards this three month requirement.

For Malia, October would be #1, and should she submit proofs in January and February, she would receive her Energem piece in early March!

Hello! So, say a friend was considering a third character. Definitely not me! Totally a friend. But the second month of AC for a certain thunder god was this month. If I got the AC in before applications closed could I still app this month and sneak it in before the end of year?

I mean, not me. My friend.

Also regarding the characters from the same canon - have any of you seen Ragnarok yet? I just need to know if Valkyrie falls under characters that can't be played by the same person. And if she's a spoiler still under US timezones given the film was out where I am first, then she actually can't be apped until January?

And also - last question! - Thor's canon update would need to be February wouldn't it? With the three months of AC.

Hey there!

Since Thor was apped in the September application round, you'd be eligible to app your third character once his second successful AC proof was submitted. If your AC proof is passed before you submit your third application this month, you'll be all set. For his canon update, he'll receive his Energem piece in early February, assuming successful AC proofs in November and January.

As far as Thor: Ragnarok is concerned, we currently base our release dates on USA releases, which was November 3, 2017. Characters from this movie are eligible to be apped starting in January, as we will not have an application period in December.

In terms of same canon characters, our rule of thumb is: will the characters have IC reasons to interact within their home canon or once arrived here in Cuddle City? If yes, we would ask that players not play both characters. If the characters are sufficiently removed from each other that they wouldn't have reason to interact either at home or in Cuddle City, that would be acceptable. (The mod team has yet to see the movie, so unfortunately our answer can't be more specific at this time!)

I looked for the answer to this and if I missed it I did not look hard enough, but what (if anything) are characters allowed to bring with them when they arrive? Do they bring a suitcase (or twelve) or is it only the clothes on their back? I can work with either, but I didn't want to start writing an unpacking post if there's nothing to unpack!

Hi there! As far as general goods go, it's mostly up to the players and how much they want their characters to feel at home!

To give you a better idea of the arrival process, it goes a little like this:

▸ Characters are summoned by the Energem to Cadelle after they make a wish, either consciously (Oh, I wish I could go to the ball) or unconsciously (This is so unfair... if only there were something I could do about it!).
▸ Upon their arrival, characters receive a briefing from the city administration on the rules and regulations of the city (consent-based laws, their initial per diem and housing arrangements, and other details) and are given the option to agree to stay or to return home and 'opt-out' of the city's agreement.
▸ Characters who agree — whether they listened and paid attention to the city's briefing or not is up to you! — are sent home again with a small piece of the Energem, and given instructions on activating it when they are ready to begin their stay in the city. Whether they plan to pack one suitcase or twenty is up to you, and Magnus is certainly welcome to use his magic to make his packing easier!

If there's something specific you need advisement on, or just any other questions that come to mind, don't hesitate to ask! We look forward to seeing Magnus settle in!

My question is re: the newest application open period:

How often can we apply for new characters? I'm torn between two right now and admittedly was banking on the previous allowance to app two at once, so now I'm a little stuck, and while that's one me, knowing how often I can apply might help me make the decision.

If Reid wanted to ask a bunch of nosy, overly technical questions about the way wishes are granted (examples: is there such a thing as a wish that's too big to be granted? how are different acts valued? how are our 'points' tracked? are 'points' transferable to other wishes if we change our mind? can you make a predictive model on wish fulfillment timeline given certain value assignments? really, Reid) would he have his questions answered... I mean. At least some of them? lol

Also, many apologies but you can assume he bothered the poor volunteer coordinators for like a full hour when they made the proposal to him because he was just that skeptical of the whole set up. Um. Yes. Look, he's thorough.

Yes, absolutely! Here are a few guidelines to help fill in the blanks for you and for Doctor Reid:

Prior to the first wave of volunteer citizenry, the city operated under the assumption that acts of goodwill — whether it be charitable donation, volunteerism, or simply helping ones fellow man — powered the Energem itself. The Energem has long been used to power the city, replacing the need for fossil fuels or other potentially hazardous materials in their economic infrastructure. Unsurprisingly, the city itself has a significantly lower criminal presence and a much stronger cultural emphasis on goodwill and charity than many nations we'd find in our own backyards.
Over time, the city's population began to grow, thus demanding more power of the Energem than they were creating in a given period; as a result, the Energem itself sought to balance the scales. The city's administration is still trying to figure out exactly how it works, but essentially, volunteers are summoned from across the universe based on the sincerity of their wishes. In return for helping to power the Energem during their stay in the city, they are offered a piece of the Energem itself — known colloquially as wish stones — to take with them back to their home worlds.
Wish stones may be redeemed upon returning home for a wish of the character's choosing. Since they aren't redeemed in Cadelle directly, the city administration will be admittedly a little unsure on exactly how "big" the wish can be, but they've found that wishes like preventing death, filling someone's bank account, or altering a person's own choices (ie. I wish I had never opened that door.) have all been successful. Wishes that override another person's autonomy or consent, however, have been failures — it seems the Energem, even in small pieces, is still tied to the city's moral code.
The city has long held that acts of civil servitude and charity are powerful, but with the first waves of volunteers — they were, admittedly, pretty thirsty, as the kids say — it was discovered that physical and sexual intimacy were equally (if not more so) effective at contributing energy to the city. The administration would certainly be glad to show Doctor Reid the tracking systems that are used to determine citizen and volunteers' contributions — though, admittedly, we can't explain it very much beyond 'it's magical and it works'. (Some things just don't translate well into the literal.)
Since the wish stone isn't redeemed until a character returns home, they don't need to decide what their contributions are going toward beyond the opportunity to make their wish of choice come true. When they're ready to return home, they'll be given a full briefing on exactly how the wish stone works, as well as how to return to Cadelle in future should they like to. (ie for canon updates and things of that sort)
While each character's stay is different, the city has found that dedicated volunteers can earn their wish stone in as little as three months. Some do earn theirs faster — those with steady sexual partners, for example, or those who devote themselves to a full-time roster of volunteering or other constructive activities — and some do earn slower. There is no time restriction or requirement, however; the city is glad to host volunteers for as long as they'd like to stay, so long as they do not breach any of the major laws, so no murder, kidnapping, or arson, please and thank you!

Hi! I have a question that might be a little odd, but I'm looking to bring in Sally Malik from the US version of Being Human. In her canon Sally is a ghost, and my preferred canon point is one in which she is still a ghost, technically, but I don't want her to be an actual ghost still when I bring her into game. So my question is would this be something that I should note in the humanization portion of the app or is there another section in which that would be appropriate in order for her to be alive rather than dead in game?

Or would you suggest her wish being to be alive again to cover this?

As part of Sally being brought to Cadelle, the city would grant her a corporeal body to interact with the other citizens and volunteers alike.

She would still technically be a ghost, and as such require whatever it is that ghosts need, but she can still interact with the world as is she were alive.

So, I was wondering about the network. More specifically, would Daisy be able to hack it. She'd probably try just for the sake of it, maybe make some encrypted channels, potentially try and figure out more about the people who run the place? I only have vague ideas for now, if I could make some noise about her using her skills I'd definitely come up with something more and contact the mods about it? Just wondering if she can be seen to make an attempt.

Daisy is definitely welcome to try — and in hacking the network, she may be able to discover things encrypted by her fellow visiting cuddlers (aka your fellow played characters), but she's unlikely to find out anything truly damaging or secretive about the city's administration from the network itself.

However, if you'd like for Daisy to eventually turn her hacking and investigative attempts towards City Hall & the city's administrative buildings (perhaps by levying her contacts with certain blonde women who just so happen to work in City Hall?), let us know! We're happy to work with you to give IC results and information to discover!
